PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Food service and processing establishments are encouraged to implement an Organics and Food Waste Recycling Program by discarding their organic and food waste into an alternate bin. The goal of the Organics and Food Waste Recycling Program is to offer a cost-effective and environmentally-friendly alternative to dispose of their organic and food waste.

 

WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE

Grocery stores, big box stores, produce markets, coffee houses, florists, restaurants,
resorts, casinos, large hotels, hospitals and food processers.
 
WHY PARTICIPATE
 
· Better for the environment; it diverts waste from landfills and turns organic waste into a useful product, such as soil amendments
· Businesses can recycle 75% of their waste, providing disposal cost savings
· Assists the cities in meeting AB939 waste diversion requirements
· Cost savings by better management of disposal cost
· Free technical assistance to make your program a success
 
ACCEPTABLE MATERIALS
 
All food waste and trimmings, including fruits and vegetables, meat and bones, seafood, poultry, dairy products, bread, coffee grounds, plant trimmings, soiled paper products, milk cartons and waxed cardboard

All plastic products, glass products, metal products, Styrofoam or any other non-biodegradable
materials
